Umbro


Umbro is an English company that manufactures footwear, sportswear and other products related to football, sports in general and fashion, with its products sold in more than 90 countries around the world. Its headquarters are located in Cheadle, Greater Manchester, England. In October 2007 it was bought by its American competitor Nike. At the end of 2012 Nike sold it to Iconix Brand Group. Umbro is the current provider of sportswear for the national teams of: Guatemala, Canada, Botswana, Lapland, Malawi, Aruba, Turkmenistan, Jamaica and El Salvador. You also see 86 professional league clubs from Europe, America and Asia. On October 19, 2007, JJB Sports acquired a 10.1% stake in Umbro, in a measure to protect its market share of football jerseys from England. On October 23, 2007 it was announced that Umbro had agreed to sell it to Nike. Umbro's board recommended its shareholders to vote in favor of the proposal, since it offered a very competitive price for the company. The price of Umbro shares at the time of the offer was about 130 P. The agreement was approved by regulators in December 2007. Nike, in November 2008, acquired the Umbro brand in an operation that valued the firm English in 285 million pounds sterling (340 million euros or 580 million dollars). Umbro saw in this purchase an opportunity to expand its international business.
